WEATHER CONDITIONS

Season phenology:

Weather conditions:

June was cold and cloudy, with permanent fog on the coast and visibility below 500 m. Temperature did not exceed +9øC
and was on average +4-+5øC with permanent drizzle or rain. Temperatures reached +20øC in July with mean ranging from +9øC to 12øC. July was sunny, but rains were common, while strong wind was not observed.

Season temperature:
Season humidity: rainy
Date of 50% snow-cover:
Date of ice-break on rivers: 13 June
Date of final loss of snow:

BIOTIC CONDITIONS

Rodents abundance evaluation:

low

Breeding conditions:

Weather conditions were unlikely to adversely affect breeding performance of most wader species. Ducks and geese suffered from predation by Arctic and Red foxes and Brown Bears. Bears were in particular active on colonies of Herring Gulls Larus vegae. Geese nests under observation for scientific purposes apparently suffered from predation, while others were predated by Arctic Foxes to lesser extent. Breeding success of Common Eider was very low.

Rodent dynamics:

Very few lemmings were seen.

Rodent species recorded:

LatinAbundance
Lemmus trimucronatusrare
Microtus oeconomusrare

Summary of fauna studies:

Data were collected on numbers and distribution of White-fronted and Emperor geese.
